Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

In these pages you will meet vampires, murderers, children and others who know where the shadows go. This expanded edition of Darker Corners pulls six new tales of dark wonder into the light. Read at your own risk. Some things are better left unseen.

Darker Corners is a collection of 14 short stories written over the years by Richard Cody. I originally won this in a giveaway from goodreads, and I'm glad I did or I never would have discovered the amazingness that is Richard Cody's writing.

After reading Darker Corners, I'm filled with a sense of dread. The author causes haunting images of gruesome events to float through my mind in a way that no author has conjured for me before. Cody's shorter pieces, or flash fiction as he calls them, shock and awe in 3 pages or less. I actually enjoyed his shorter pieces most because of how shocking they were. He hits you with everything from monsters to murders, vampires to ghosts, yet none of it feels like your average horror story. No, these stories paralyze you with fear and get to you psychologically. They get deep inside your mind and make you wish you could unsee the pictures painted in your mind by the words on the page. I made the mistake of reading this book while sitting at work, in a dark empty building, in the middle of the night. Lets just say everything around me made me jump and I refused to leave the area the lights shined in. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a good scare.
