Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

Sometimes love...can drive you crazy.

Adelaide Carmichael and Damien Allen couldn't be more opposite.

Adelaide's mother abandoned her when she was ten years old, leaving her to be raised by her abusive and alcoholic father.

Damien on the other hand came from a wealthy family, was a local celebrity, and seemed to have a bright future ahead of him.

Despite their differences, Adelaide and Damien were young, wild, and fiercely in love.

And they had a plan.

They were going to run away.

Be together forever.

And their plan was set in motion, until tragedy struck and for some reason, Adelaide wound up in The Oakhill Institution for the insane.

Adelaide has no idea what she did to wind up at Oakhill, but she knows one thing for sure...

She wants out.

And after Damien follows her there to aid her in escaping, Adelaide slowly begins putting together the pieces of her memory that are missing.

And it doesn't take Adelaide long to figure out that sometimes...

That one true love never dies.

Darkfallen's thoughts:

I have been waiting on the edge of my seat for this book and it did not disappoint! Lauren Hammond has blown me away yet again with her writing that will rip you to pieces.

Addy's mom left when she was ten. Leaving her alone with her drunk and abusive father. She's never really known a life where she was allowed to do anything other than wait on him hand and foot and hope that he doesn't beat the crap out of her for messing up. She's never known love. In fact she isn't even sure that she deserves to be loved my anyone. That is until she meets Damien. He is everything she's not. He is the boy from the right side of the tracks, with the wealthy family and all the opportunities in the world. So why does he want her? I lowly nobody that is never going anywhere? Still it isn't long before she falls for Damien, but how long can she keep him away from the life she lives with her father? In the end love proves to conquer all, including her sanity...

This was amazing! Then again why would you expect anything less from Lauren Hammond? She proves to us time and time again that her writing will take you places, albeit darker places, that you never thought you'd go, and you'll love every minute of it.

I love how the chapters switch back and forth from the past to the present, allowing us to see just exactly how Abby and Damien's love grew and the tragedy that led to Abby being in a mental institution. There is never a dull moment as we watch both story lines unfold side by side, and in the end you are left with an ending that will make you want more. This book almost reminded me of a Girl Interrupted meets Gothica meets a heart wrenching love story.

Overall I say this is a book that should not be passed up and I can't wait to get my hands on the next one!
