Duality by E.R. Pierce: Reivew

Duality (Cordelia Kelly #1)
By E.R. Pierce
Published April 21st 2013 by Fused Publishing Pick up your copy at Amazon, Sony, B&N , Kobo, or Amazon UK today!
Synopsis borrowed from Gooreads:
This is a darker paranormal Romance / Urban Fantasy hybrid. You'll find no fluffy bunnies, or shooting stars, or unicorns walking on rainbows.

Cordelia Kelly is running from her past and her destiny. She is a dual-natured empath - meaning she is receptive to the emotional aura, positive and negative, of those around her. Cordelia struggles to create harmony between the light and dark sides of her existence. She's also an elemental, but her inherent powers are slowly manifesting with age and time. The scales of good versus evil are tilting in the wrong the direction.

Will she succumb or evolve to fulfill her destiny? Sol Winterborn is not your typical hero, if anything he's an anti-hero. Moral indecision riddle his path to redemption, but the undeniable truth he holds onto is his search for his lighthouse - his soul mate. When fate throws Cordelia in his path, he's unprepared but can't stay away. Her siren call sings a song he can't ignore. He sees in her a kindred spirit, and possibly the one he's searched long nights to find. Will Cordelia be the key to unlock his heart?

When his own dark past catches up with him, will he risk his life for love?

Darkfallen's thoughts:

This book was PERFECT!!

Cordelia is an empathy so life in her shoes isn't easy. She's never even met another empathy like her. that is until she meets Sol. He is everything she is plus he has a few special powers that intrigues Cordelia. Especially since for as long as she can remember she has always felt like two different people. One light and one dark. But when she is around Sol she feels balanced between the two. But when Sol disappears can she keep her darker side at bay before lives are put in danger?

Speaking as someone that has read some of E.R. Pierce's older works OMG has her writing gone to a whole new level!! It's polished and refined and this story was just simply perfect. I got so lost in the world Pierce created it was like the words were jumping off the page and coming to life around me. I loved the world that she created. It's been three days since I've read Duality and I just can't seem to get into any other books because my mind is still enraptured by the world E.R. Pierce created. All I want to do is jump back in and spend some time with Cordelia and Sol.

I loved both sides of Cordelia but if I have to chose then I would go with her dark side. She is fun and a risk taker, and a whole lot naughty; whereas her good side is quiet and plays by the rules. I loved Sol and especially loved the twist at the end. (NO!! I will NOT tell you. I am not a spoiler bunny. You'll just have to read it for yourself to find out. lol)

Overall this is a dark paranormal romance that shouldn't be missed! In a word...FLAWLESS!

Branded (Sinners #1) by Abi Ketner & Missi Kalicicki

Branded (Sinners #1)
By Abi Ketner & Missi Kalicicki
Published June 28th 2013
Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best. Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.

Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.

Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.

The Hole can’t keep me.

The Hole can’t break me.

I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.

My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.

Darkfallen's thoughts:

I don't usually read dystopian...for some reason I just can't get into it, but boy am I glad I gave this one a go! It was awesome!!!

Lexi lives in a world where if you get convicted of the of the seven deadly sins your branded and forced to live in a community called the Hole. It's an awful place to live so when she finds herself convicted of lust and thrown in the hole she doesn't know how she is going to make it out alive. That's when she meets Cole. He's a guard assigned to her. He risks his life to save hers on numerous occasions but it's not allowed for a guard to have a relationship with a sinner. Can Lexi prove her innocence and get out of the hole before someone finds out about her feelings for Cole?

This book was just...WOW. Amazing! The world building was phenomenal. And what an awful, filthy world it is. I felt so bad for Lexi. And I couldn't help but swoon over Cole. He's so sweet and tough at the same time. Then there was his dog, Zeus. Zeus had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. I just couldn't get enough of him. He was seriously on of my favorite characters and he can't even talk! LOL

Overall this book will transport you to another world. One filled with heartbreak and despair. It will leave you on the edge of your seat and begging for more long after you turn the last page!!

Officer Off Limits
Tessa Bailey
Published June 10th by Entangled Publishing Pick up your copy at Amazon or B&N today!
Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

His need to possess her is non-negotiable.

Story Brooks’ fiancĂ© just called off their wedding two weeks before the happy day. As if that isn't bad enough, her semi-estranged father, an infamous NYPD hostage negotiator, has suffered a heart attack. Not wanting to examine her lack of emotion over the broken engagement, she hops on a plane to reconnect with her father before it’s too late.

Playboy hostage negotiator Daniel Chase has never, not once, been refused by a woman, so when a debate over hospital snack foods with a delectable kindergarten teacher ends in flat-out rejection, he makes it his mission to seduce her. His only obstacle? She’s the daughter of his mentor who implicitly forbade Daniel from pursuing her.

Despite her father’s warnings and Daniel’s troubled past, Daniel and Story can’t resist their intense attraction to one another. But when the reason for her fiancĂ©’s abrupt wedding cancellation comes to light, can Story and Daniel's already forbidden relationship survive?

Darkfallen's thoughts:

You will need a few cold showers just to get through this!!!

Story isn't having the best week. First her fiance breaks off the engagement and then her father has a heart attack. So she packs a bag and heads to New York to see her dad in the hospital. Which is where she meets Daniel. He tries to pick her up but she's not having it after the week she's having. Little does she know that she can't escape him, being that he is her dads protege and all. That and it looks like her hostage negotiator of a father is pulling more strings than anyone knows about...

First of all this story was amazing! I laughed out loud countless times. And it is smoking hot. Like H.O.T. hot! I just couldn't get enough of these two. The chemistry between Story and Daniel is undeniable. Combine the hotness, the laughter, and a twist at the end that will leave you gasping, this book rocks! I can't wait to read more books by Tessa Bailey!

Dare You To by Katie McGarry: Review

Dare You To (Pushing The Limits #2)
Katie McGarry
Published May 28th 2013 by Harliquin Teen
Pick up your copy at Amazon, B&N, or your local indie today!
Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:
Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. "Dance with me, Beth."
"No." I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again....
"I dare you..."

If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all....

Darkfallen's thoughts:

This book is just...WOW!

Beth Risk has a less than stellar home life. Her mother is an alcoholic and a drug user and her moms boyfriend has sworn to kill Beth if he ever sees her again. So to protect her mom at all costs she hides her home life. She knows her mom with get arrested if anyone finds out. After one particularly rough night Beth takes the fall for her mom and ends up in jail. That's the night that everything changed. After moving in with her uncle she meets Ryan at her new school.

Ryan was dared to get her phone number one night at a Taco Bell. Boy was he surprised when she turned up to be the new girl at his school. And since her never got her number he is determined to complete the dare and get it. Only thing is now his friends have upped the bet. Her has to get her to go out on a date with him. Little do both of them know is that the more they resist each other the closer they get. So close that they can't turn away from each other.

So I have to say that while I enjoyed Dare You To I loved Pushing the Limits more. Beth is rough around the edges and trusts no one. While Ryan is the n ice popular jock with a less than stellar home life and a secret. But to Beth he just looks like the jock that has everything so she gives him a hard time. The first half of this book was a little flat for me. It just didn't have the passion that Noah and Echo had in Pushing The Limits. Still it was a great fast read and I can't wait to read the next book in this series. I especially loved the ending...but of course my lips are sealed. lol

Overall this was another stellar book by Katie McGarry and I look forward to what else she has coming for me.

Fakint It (Losing It #2)
By Cora Carmack Published June 4th 2013 by William Morrow & Company
Pick up your copy at Amazon, B&N, or your local indie today!
Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

Darkfallen's thoughts:

This is one of those books that you just can't put down!

Max has been broken ever since the car crash that took her sister away from her. She spends all her time trying to pretend to be something she's not...the good child. But when she's not around her family, pretending to be the good daughter, she throws herself into her music. It's the only thing that lets her be herself. That's until she meets Cade. He looks the part of Mr. Perfect. Definitely not her usual boyfriend material, but before she knows it that all changes. Not only does her family love him, but he's turning out to be the perfect guy for her if only she will let him.

This book had me laughing one minute and crying the next. It was just so good and refreshing. I LOVED Max. She is amazing and strong. Not afraid to think out of the box, with her tattoos and multicolored hair and piercings. Then we have Cade, a acting student in college. He looks like the perfect type of guy to bring home to your parents which is what both draws, and pushes, Max to him. What was only supposed to be a ploy to keep her parents off her back turns into so much more! Before she knows it they are both falling for each other.

Overall this is one of those books that will make you laugh, make you cry, and you'll be sad that it's over when you reach the last page!

Act Like You Love Me by Cindi Madsen: Review

Act Like You Love Me
By Cindi Madsen
Published June 10th 2013 by Entangled Bliss
Pick up your copy at Amazon, or B&N today!
Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

All’s fair in acting and amore…

Brynn McAdams isn’t the awkward drama geek she was in high school—she’s grown up and confident, or at least she likes to think so. But when her old crush, the impossibly handsome and impossibly unattainable Sawyer Raines, comes back to town to direct her community play, Brynn finds herself determined to be someone other than the girl he doesn’t even recognize. Good thing she’s an excellent actress.

After his bad breakup in NYC, the last thing Sawyer wants is to get involved with another actress. But the glamorous and beautiful Brynn draws him in, even though as her director, he knows she’s off-limits. There’s just something about the woman that feels…familiar. Like home.

As Brynn’s lies start to snowball, she struggles to stop acting and come clean. But what if Sawyer is already falling for the fake Brynn, not the Brynn she truly is?

Darkfallen's thoughts:

An adult romance without any sex? Ummmmmmmmm just not sure that works for me.

Brynn was a dork in high school. One of the kids that all the jocks made fum of. But she's all grown up now and while she still rather quote plays and literature she isn't the dorky little girl anymore. In fact she's hot! That's why Sawyer can't seem to keep his eyes off of her. He was only coming in town to sell his parents beach house, then it's back to New York for him. He doesn't have time for a relationship. But he just can't shake Brynn. To bad she is pretending to be someone she isn't. So far Sawyer doesn't seem to remember her from high school. The longer she can keep up this charade the better. Only little do they know that love has a mind of its own and has plans for the both of them.

OK....so I want to start off by saying that this book wasn't bad necessarily. It was just lacking in some key areas. The thing that bothered me the most is that this is supposed to be a adult romance yet there isn't any sex in the ENTIRE book. I kept waiting for it...hoping for it...begging for it...yet it never came. Aside from a little bit of cussing here and there this book could be read by any age rage in my opinion.

Still I really liked Brynn and Sawyer. They were great as a couple once we got to that part. There was a lot of cat and mouse before they got it together which eventually drove me nuts. Brynn is so busy being something she's not. There are times that I just wanted to hit her upside the head and tell her to show herself. And how Sawyer can't remember her from high school until someone spills the beans is beyond me. I graduated from a high school class of over 300 students and I remember everyone I went to school with. And that was a LONG time ago. lol

Overall this book just didn't float my boat and that makes me a sad panda:-(
