One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress #2)

Title: One Foot in the Grave (Night Huntress #2)
Author:
Narrator:
Published: 2008
Format: Audiobook
Synopsis from Goodreads

You can run from the grave, but you can’t hide...

Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She’s still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her, but when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.

Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she’ll find that desire lasts forever... and that Bones won’t let her get away again.

Welps, I finally did it!

It's been 2 years in the making but I finally got this book under my belt :)

I can't tell you how many people have told me to read it. How many people gasped when I told them I had read Halfway to the Grave and didn't read One Foot in the Grave immediately after that.

And quite frankly, I'm a little ashamed of myself.

I mean with Halfway to the Grave ending with Cat thinking of Bones saying: If you run from me, I will chase you, and I'll find you....

Seriously, why didn't I jump into the next book?

I honestly can't remember. It was nearly 2 years ago and maybe I was a bit dumb... ok... really dumb... but I just finished the book and wow-e-zow-e am I happy that I did.

First off, I couldn't believe that it was 4 years later. 4 years!! I didn't know what to think about that. In my opinion, those 4 years kinda made Cat a bit bitter. She drank a ton more gin and cursed way more than she did in the first book. I really didn't like that about her, but I'm sure the die-hard UF readers dug it. Not sure what that says about me.

And I knew all about the magnificence of Chapter 32. Well, as much as everyone has hinted to me. So, I knew that Bones would enter the scene sooner or later. But I was mega scared that this was going to end up like New Moon and Bones wouldn't pop up until 2/3s through the book.

Happily, I was wrong.

I thought it was super cute that Cat rescued a kitten and then met a nice veterinarian. But, I wanted more kitten time. As a cat lover, I thought it would have been cute to see Bones interact with the kitty. That can't be a spoiler, can it? We already knows he shows back sooner or later because of Chapter 32.

So, let's talk about Chapter 32.

Zo-ma-gah!!

I listened to the audiobook and let's just say that I was turning all sorts of different shades of red while the narrator groaned, moaned, and went all breathy in my ear.

Crimeny!!

Someone give Tavia Gilbert a raise because e-gads can she make you believe every single word that comes out of her mouth. And her Bones? Freaking off the wall!!

Anywho... while Chapter 32 made me turn crimson and had my ears burning, it was the scene with the tree that really got my engine running. The first time that Bones and Cat were alone.... ach.... it made my vision go blurry.... Let's just say... HOT!!!

But, that's not the only reason I was curious about this series. I have a fascination with half-breeds, and Cat is now one of my favs (Emma of course is my all time fav). I love how she thinks. And one of the most awesome things about The Night Huntress is the humor between Cat and Bones.

I have to admit when I heard Bones' voice for the first time in this book I squeed like a little fan girl running after Robert Pattinson.

Is he still the big man on campus?

Maybe it's Chris Hemsworth.

Wait... I'd go run after him!! Ok ok... I'd run after Patty Cakes too.... Don't you judge me!!

But as I was saying... when Bones came into the story, my heart raced and I squeed. NOW the story was about to get good!!

I loved how Cat wanted to protect him and in order to do that she had to pretend like she was over him. But we all know and knew the truth. How can you get over him? How could anyone get over Bones? He is all sorts of awesome.

This is definitely a series that I want to continue on with. It's cool, sexy, has loads of action, and splits my sides at times.

If you are looking for a series to really sink you teeth into might I recommend this one.....

And oh yeah... Tv Big Wigs.... I'm still waiting....

    1. I've got "Destined for an Early Grave" under my belt but I was told that I shouldn't go on until I read the Deleted Scenes that are on the author's website. I need to get that done soon.

      Zoo-wee!! Lovin' me some Bones!
