Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

In this incandescent debut, newcomer Amy Plum has created a powerful paranormal mythology with immortal revenants. The Paris setting comes enchantingly alive as a relentless struggle between good and evil takes place in its streets. Rich with romance, atmosphere, and thrills, Die for Me will leave readers breathlessly awaiting its sequel.(

Darkfallen's thoughts:

First can I just start by saying...LOOK AT THAT COVER!!
Isn't she a beaut?!?!
There ia another cover running around out there, but I have to say that this is my favorite:)

When I first heard about this book I was all like "SQUEEEE"

I mean come one a hot YA love story with zombies? Whats not to love!

Well folks while I will say this book is likable...lovable isn't a word I would use:( I enjoyed reading it most of the time but something just wasn't connecting me to the story, the characters, the plot, all of it. It just didn't captivate me. Grip me in a way that made my emotions drop off the deep side of the roller coaster. I would say must of the time the roller coaster just coasted...

Vincent's character was just not quite right. At times he sounded all old (which is is) and at others he spoke like your average young teen boy. Now I'm all good with the immortal young looking old guy talking all proper and 18th century like. Or when he has learned the slang and talks like any other teen boy of the times, but the flopping back and forth left me feeling like I couldn't get a grip on him, ya know? Then there is the fact that he was so sweet to Ava. Even at times when I felt like he should have put his foot down he never did.

Ava's character was better. I truly felt for her loss of her parents. The pain and sorrow she was feeling sucked me in in the first few chapters. But again when she tried to be snarky it just didn't feel right and I wasn't buying it. It felt forced to me..

Overall I did enjoy the read and am curious to see where this is going but I just felt with the premise it could have been better.

Until next time...

  4. I just saw another reviewer say they couldn't help comparing it to Twilight--and it didn't do it for them, either.

I was kind of skeptical about this one, but the Twilight comparison kind of makes me want to read it, now... ;)

I'm curious what you think about the comparison ;)

I'm still undecided on this on...it's not at the top of my tbr list, but maybe I'll give it a try eventually!

    Thanks for the review

  5. @Nym~ I don't like to say things like "It was just like Twilight" Don't worry there will be a rant someday where I explain how that bothers me;) So I didn't say it...but I DID think it*winks* This was the first book that I actually have to agree with those people. There's an Edwardish guy. A Cullenish family. A Vulturis'ish bad team....

Overall that had nothing to to with my rating. It just simply didn't suck me in like I was hopin for. It was decent...just not captivating. But OMG some of my fellow blogging buddies might pelt me with banana

  6. Well, she didn't say it was *just* like Twilight--but she did have a pretty convincing chart which highlighted the similarities in the characters and the plot. ;)

And she actually wasn't dissing Twilight--which she likes--but couldn't help finding herself comparing the two, and the second didn't quite seem to measure up for her.

Am really looking forward to your Twilight rant! :) :) :)

btw--did you here Greta escaped from a convent?
