What's you favorite scary story, VVB?

Soooooo VVb tell us what is your favorite scary story??

My favorite scary story? I would have to say it's the story of Bloody Mary in the bathroom mirror. It is such a classic urban tale that I caught my daughter and her friends in the trying to summon Bloody Mary and ending up giggling and running out of the bathroom.

Here is the full story of how she went from being Mary, to Bloody Mary

She lived deep in the forest in a tiny cottage and sold herbal remedies for a living. Folks living in the town nearby called her Bloody Mary, and said she was a witch. None dared cross the old crone for fear that their cows would go dry, their food-stores rot away before winter, their children take sick of fever, or any number of terrible things that an angry witch could do to her neighbors.

Then the little girls in the village began to disappear, one by one. No one could find out where they had gone. Grief-stricken families searched the woods, the local buildings, and all the houses and barns, but there was no sign of the missing girls. A few brave souls even went to Bloody Mary's home in the woods to see if the witch had taken the girls, but she denied any knowledge of the disappearances. Still, it was noted that her haggard appearance had changed. She looked younger, more attractive. The neighbors were suspicious, but they could find no proof that the witch had taken their young ones.

Then came the night when the daughter of the miller rose from her bed and walked outside, following an enchanted sound no one else could hear. The miller's wife had a toothache and was sitting up in the kitchen treating the tooth with an herbal remedy when her daughter left the house. She screamed for her husband and followed the girl out of the door. The miller came running in his nightshirt. Together, they tried to restrain the girl, but she kept breaking away from them and heading out of town.

The desperate cries of the miller and his wife woke the neighbors. They came to assist the frantic couple. Suddenly, a sharp-eyed farmer gave a shout and pointed towards a strange light at the edge of the woods. A few townsmen followed him out into the field and saw Bloody Mary standing beside a large oak tree, holding a magic wand that was pointed towards the miller's house. She was glowing with an unearthly light as she set her evil spell upon the miller's daughter.

The townsmen grabbed their guns and their pitchforks and ran toward the witch. When she heard the commotion, Bloody Mary broke off her spell and fled back into the woods. The far-sighted farmer had loaded his gun with silver bullets in case the witch ever came after his daughter. Now he took aim and shot at her. The bullet hit Bloody Mary in the hip and she fell to the ground. The angry townsmen leapt upon her and carried her back into the field, where they built a huge bonfire and burned her at the stake.

As she burned, Bloody Mary screamed a curse at the villagers. If anyone mentioned her name aloud before a mirror, she would send her spirit to revenge herself upon them for her terrible death. When she was dead, the villagers went to the house in the wood and found the unmarked graves of the little girls the evil witch had murdered. She had used their blood to make her young again.

From that day to this, anyone foolish enough to chant Bloody Mary's name three times before a darkened mirror will summon the vengeful spirit of the witch. It is said that she will tear their bodies to pieces and rip their souls from their mutilated bodies. The souls of these unfortunate ones will burn in torment as Bloody Mary once was burned, and they will be trapped forever in the mirror.

What's your favorite scary story, Ambur?

Today we have Ambur from Burning.x.Impossibly.x.Bright here to tell us her favorite scary story!

Well, when I was young I watched a lot of scary movies...I watched the Chuckie movies, or as they’re actually called Child’s Play, and the Freddy movies...er, I mean the Nightmare On Elm Street movies all the time. As you can see, I was young enough to watch these movies and give them nicknames, and to this day, I still call them that. I also used to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I’ll admit, David Boreanaz as Angel was my very first crush...and he still looks good. ;) While I love all those movies and shows, and they definitely gave me nightmares on countless occasions, my favourite scary story as a kid actually came from a book...a library book.

This library book was super popular, and my whole class took it out at least once. I swear, this book was coveted, and when I got my turn, I knew why. It was amazing. It was written rhythmically, there were pictures, and the stories were so creepy...and memorable.

My favourite scary story is from this book, and that book is called: In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories. (See even the title sounds awesome!) The story is called “The Green Ribbon.” I’ll summarize it for you:

First, there is a girl with a green ribbon always tied around her neck, and then, there’s a boy. The boy and girl liked each other. He was very curious about the ribbon, and he kept asking her about it. She would never tell him. They grew up, fell in love, were married, and when he asked again, she still wouldn’t tell him. She said he’d have to wait for the right moment to find out about the ribbon. They got older, and the woman got sick. She was dying, and called him into her room. Finally, she told him that he could now know about the ribbon. Then, she asks him to untie it....and her head falls off!

As demented as it sounds, the head falling off part was the best! Haha I even found a youtube video of “The Green Ribbon” being narrated. You can watch it if you like:

So, “The Green Ribbon” wasn’t the scariest story that I’ve ever heard, nor was it the best, but it was my favourite, and it’s one I’ll never forget. That last line solidified it for me: “and Jenny’s head fell off.” Plus, the pictures always stuck out in my mind. Did anyone else read In a Dark, Dark Room and Other Scary Stories when they were younger??

Darkfallen's favorite childhood scary story

"Humans can lick too!"

A nine-year-old girl took her faithful dog to her room one evening when her parents tucked her into bed before they left, telling her they'd be back late and that as long as the dog was with her, she'd be safe. So she settled under her covers as they left and drifted off.

Later she woke to a peculiar sound: dripping in the bathroom. Drip...drip...drip...She figured the faucet was leaking and reached down by her bed. After a moment she felt her trusty canine friend lick her hand and knew she was alright. She rolled over and went back to sleep.

Some time later she woke again and heard the rhythmic dripping in the bathroom. She swallowed and reached down for the dog. She wished Daddy would come home and fix it; she hated being alone. But her dog once again licked her hand, and so she settled down to go back to sleep.

The third time she woke, she listened for her parents but could hear nothing but the dripping. She realized it was making her uncomfortable and rose to go to the restroom. The dripping got louder and louder with every step. Drip...drip...drip...

She heard something behind her, but assuming it was the dog following her, she went to the bathroom and flipped on the light. Then she saw the shower and screamed.

Hanging in the shower curtain was her dog, skinned, his blood dripping to the floor. Drip..drip...drip...She saw the mirror, and there, scrawled in the dog's blood, was the message, "Humans can lick too." She looked past the blood when she saw something in the dark behind her...a figure moving closer and closer, with a knife in his hand dripping blood on the floor. Drip...drip...drip...

Greta's favorite childhood scary story

"Me Tie Doughty Walker"

The was a haunted house where supposedly, every night, a bloody head fell down the chimney. At least that’s what people said. So nobody would stay there overnight. Then, a rich man offered two hundred dollars to whoever would do it. And a boy said he would try if he could have his dog with him. So it was all settled. The very next night the boy went to the house with his dog. To make it more cheerful, he started a fire in the fireplace. Then he sat in front of the fire and waited, and his dog waited with him.
For a while nothing happened. But a little after midnight he heard someone singing softly off in the woods. The singing sounded something like this: “Me tie dough-ty walker…” “It’s just somebody singing,” the boy told himself, but he was frightened. Then his dog answered the song! Softly and sadly, it sang: “Lynchee kinchy, colly molly, dingo dingo….” The boy could not believe his ears, His dog had never uttered a word before.

Then a few minutes later, he heard the singing again. Now it was closer, and louder, but the words were the same: “Me tie dough-ty walker…” This time the boy tried to stop his dog from answering, he was afraid that whoever was singing would hear it and come for them. But his dog paid no attention, and again it sang: “Lynchee kinchy colly molly dingo dingo…” A half-hour later the boy heard the singing again. Now it was in the back yard, and the song was the same. “ME TIE DOUGH-TY WALKER!” Again the boy tried to keep his dog quiet. But the dog sang out louder then ever: “LYNCHEE KINCHY, COLLY MOLLY, DINGO DINGO!” Soon the boy heard the singing again. Now it was coming down the chimney and yelled: “ME TIE DOUGH-TY WALKER!” The dog sang right back: “LYNCHEE KINCHY, COLLY MOLLY, DINGO DINGO!” Suddenly a bloody head fell out of the chimney! It missed the fire and landed right next to the dog. The dog took one look at it and fell over–dead from fright! The head turned and stared at the boy and slowly it opened its mouth and screamed…” AAAAAARRGGGHHHH!!!

Remember... there's nothing to be frightened of.... or is there?
