Spellcaster (Spellbound 2)
By Cara Lynn Shultz
Published March 27th 2012
Pick up your copy today at Amazon, B&N, or Indiebound!
Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

Finding your eternal soulmate - easy.

Stopping a true-love-hungry evil - not so much…

After breaking a centuries-old romantic curse, Emma Connor is (almost) glad to get back to normal problems. Although...it's not easy dealing with the jealous cliques and gossip that rule her exclusive Upper East Side prep, even for a sixteen-year-old newbie witch. Having the most-wanted boy in school as her eternal soul mate sure helps ease the pain-especially since wealthy, rocker-hot Brendan Salinger is very good at staying irresistibly close....

But something dark and hungry is using Emma and Brendan's deepest fears to reveal damaging secrets and destroy their trust in each other. And Emma's crash course in über-spells may not be enough to keep them safe…or to stop an inhuman force bent on making their unsuspected power its own.

You can learn more about Cara at the links below:

Now please give Ashley a warm welcome...

1.) Were you attracted to Liam when you first met him? Or was it more of the way he reacted to you being hurt that made you really see him?

I always thought he was cute—I mean, Liam is TOTALLY cute—but I had pretty much given up on guys from Vince A. I mean, it's such a gossipy school, and who knew what rumors they had heard about me, thanks to you-know-who. (I hate saying his name.) So I figured Liam was just being nice to me because he's Brendan's friend. I was a little surprised that Liam came to visit me in the hospital, and at first I thought he was just being a good guy. But then he gave me a teddy bear and sat on the bed with me and held my hand. And when my dad came in and Liam dropped my hand like it was on fire, I realized that maybe there could be more there, because my dad looked like he wanted to kill him and Liam looked guilty. He wouldn't look guilty if he had innocent thoughts about me, right?

2.) After Emma spilled the magic beans about her being a witch what was your first thought? I know you appeared to handle it well, but what was really going through your head?
I really thought she was just messing with me! And then I figured that she was just hanging out with Angelique a lot and buying into the whole Renaissance Fair scene way too much. And then finally I decided that it didn't really matter what I believed—what mattered was that Emma and Angelique believed this, and more importantly, so did Brendan's ex. It took me a bit to realize that she was telling me the truth.
3.) Now that you know the truth about your cousin Emma do you see her differently? Does the witch stuff pull you closer or push you apart?
I don't see her any differently—I think it's so cool.  And I'm SO psyched that she told me and trusted me to keep her secret. I hope it means that I have some magical powers, which would rock!!!
4.) Finally back to Liam...do you see a future with him? He seems so sweet but a little shy. (Which I think just makes him cuter. Lol)
Emma keeps telling me to just take it slow with Liam and take it day by day so that's what I'm trying to do. We're still getting to know each other but you're right, he is really sweet, and really shy. OMG, so incredibly shy. I had to grab him and kiss him the first time, and he was all shocked, but then he got into it, LOL! He's gotten a lot better at initiating kissing since then. ;)
5.) And since you are giving everyone a chance to win an awesome iPod I have to ask; what’s your favorite song right now?
My favorite song right now—Katy Perry's "Firework." I just love the message of it! It's totally inspirational. Now matter how totally hopeless things may seem, you should just have faith in yourself and be true to yourself and not be afraid to show the real you to the world.

Contest Info: Spellcaster is on tour with daily give-aways and a grand prize give-away of an iPod skinned in the sleek Spellcaster cover art. Todays giveaway is a finished copy os Spellcaster! Enter the Rafflecopter below for your chance to win.
To win the iPod nano: At the end of the Tour a Rafflecopter will be up at the Tour Stops where you have to enter a question concerning one character of Spellcaster. Follow the Tour and you'll be able to answer the question easily!

Paranormals Tour: Tommy Nightmare Playlist/Giveaway!

Breaking news just in!
That's right my zombie friends. We interupt your scheduled programming for a special Paranormals event!
So drop the brains on your plate, open your ears, and give a warm welcome to J.L.Bryan, author of the Paranormals Series! Or more importantly, and also why I told you to open your ears, we are dicussing the playlist for the second book in the series, Tommy Nightmare.

Stay tuned to this broadcast for your chance to enter a giveaway that will blow your mind!
But first how about we introduce you to the book shall we?

Tommy Nightmare
By J.L.Bryan
Pick up your copy today at Amazon today!

Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

While Fallen Oak recovers from the Jenny pox, someone new is hunting Jenny.

Like Jenny, Ashleigh Goodling belonged to a pair of opposites with powers that mirror each other.

The man behind the books:
J.L. Bryan studied English literature at the University of Georgia and at Oxford, with a focus on the
English Renaissance and the Romantic period. He also studied screenwriting at UCLA. He enjoys
remixing elements of paranormal, supernatural, fantasy, horror and science fiction into new kinds of
stories. He is the author of The Paranormals trilogy (Jenny Pox, Tommy Nightmare, and Alexander
Death). Fairy Metal Thunder is the first book in his new Songs of Magic series. He lives in Atlanta
with his wife Christina, his son John, two dogs, and two cats.

Now for the music!

To view the entire soundtrack on YouTube click HERE!

As promised last Wednesday, here is the soundtrack to Tommy Nightmare, the second book in The
Paranormals series. I’ll pick some of the songs out of the playlist and explain a little about why I chose
them. Again, feel free to comment below about these songs or other songs that might be included in
the Tommy soundtrack.

“Love Will Tear Us Apart” by Joy Division, performed by The Cure.~ Yeah, this is a little bit of
foreshadowing for how the book will go. Seth and Jenny are listening to the Cure as they drive around
town in the aftermath of the first book.

“Thunder Road” by Bruce Springsteen.~ To me, this is where Esmeralda decides to run off with
Tommy, despite the fact that it clearly might be a bad decision...

“The Highwayman” performed by Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Kris
Kristofferson .~ If there’s one song that represents the whole trilogy to me, it’s this one. There just
aren’t many old country songs about reincarnation. In fact, I’m sure this is the only one. It had to
either at the end or right in the middle of the three books. :)

“Learning to Fly” by Pink Floyd.~ This is what Wooly is listening to at home when he gets a special
visit from Tommy. I think it also applies to the characters learning to use their powers and also trying
to grow up. But maybe that’s just me.

“Violet” by Hole.~ While I had to think and rethink about possible choices for a song to represent the
climactic scene of Jenny Pox, this one took no time to decide. Jenny makes a decision to surrender, in
a way that might look passive, but it’s actually a choice showing her personal growth. It only seems
like a weak choice to those who don’t recognize that nonviolence takes greater courage and strength
than violence.

“Alexandra Leaving” by Leonard Cohen. I definitely knew this would be the song for the end of
Tommy Nightmare, and it’s probably the one I listened to most while writing that book. This song is
based on a poem by Constantine P. Cavafy, which is in turn based on a story by Plutarch, which says
that Marc Antony heard his patron god Dionysus abandoning him the night before he lost the city to
Octavian Caesar. The song is one of deep loss. I felt like Alexander had a very Dionysian character,
and the song’s portrayal of lost love in terms of ancient gods and epic wars seemed to resonate with
Jenny and Alexander’s relationship.

And that’s the soundtrack for Tommy Nightmare. We’ll do the Alexander soundtrack next Wednesday!

Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

Every year in Quill, thirteen-year-olds are sorted into categories: the strong, intelligent Wanteds go to university, and the artistic Unwanteds are sent to their deaths.

Thirteen-year-old Alex tries his hardest to be stoic when his fate is announced as Unwanted, even while leaving behind his twin, Aaron, a Wanted. Upon arrival at the destination where he expected to be eliminated, however, Alex discovers a stunning secret—behind the mirage of the "death farm" there is instead a place called Artime.

In Artime, each child is taught to cultivate their creative abilities and learn how to use them magically, weaving spells through paintbrushes and musical instruments. Everything Alex has ever known changes before his eyes, and it's a wondrous transformation.

But it's a rare, unique occurence for twins to be separated between Wanted and Unwanted, and as Alex and Aaron's bond stretches across their separation, a threat arises for the survival of Artime that will pit brother against brother in an ultimate, magical battle.

The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann: Review

The Unwanteds
By Lisa McMann

Synopsis borrowed from Goodreads:

Every year in Quill, thirteen-year-olds are sorted into categories: the strong, intelligent Wanteds go to university, and the artistic Unwanteds are sent to their deaths.

Thirteen-year-old Alex tries his hardest to be stoic when his fate is announced as Unwanted, even while leaving behind his twin, Aaron, a Wanted. But it's a rare, unique occurence for twins to be separated between Wanted and Unwanted, and as Alex and Aaron's bond stretches across their separation, a threat arises for the survival of Artime that will pit brother against brother in an ultimate, magical battle.

Darkfallen's thoughts:
This book was my first EVER middle grade book.

Yes yes I AM that girl who has never read Harry Potter. While I watched all the movies I just never had a real desire to read the books, but I'll tell this book just grabbed me. From the title, to the synopsis, to the cover...I just needed to see what was behind the cover. And what I found was amazing!

This book takes you the into a sad, gray, bleak world or Quill. From the first pages you can't help but feel sorry for these people. For these kids who get punished for any form of expression. There is absolutely no free will here. And, as if that isn't bad enough, if you get caught breaking these rules the punishment is DEATH....or so everyone thinks.

It's the day of the Purge. The day when all the 13 year old kids are lined up and labeled. You are either Wanted and thus go on to Wanted University. Or your Necessary which means your not really smart enough to be wanted, but you would make a good work horse so they decide to keep you around. Or your Unwanted, and if this is the case it is a hot bus ride to the death farm where you will meet your fate in the lake of boiling oil. Twin brothers Aaron and Alex are the sons of 2 Necessary parents, but Aaron is Wanted and Alex...? UNWANTED!

Alex and the rest of the Unwanteds go to meet the fate, but little do they realize their fate isn't death. Not even close. In fact they got the better end of the deal. Living in a secret magic world where they are not only free to be themselves but it is ENCOURAGED! As Alex and his friends build their magical talents Alex can't seem to let his brother go. That's the thing with twins...it's a bond that just can't be broken. Or so they thought. It's not until the two worlds collide that Alex realizes his brother's true nature. Will the secret land of Artime be able to survive the wrath of Quill? Of will the magical world crumble and the Unwanteds finally meet their fate....DEATH?!?!

Well of course I'm not going to tell you. Your going to have to pick up this book and see for yourself! I will say that I was shocked at how easy I found myself being pulled into the story. I never thought "middle school" level books could reel me in, but I was so wrong. I would love to see this as a movie one day. I kept picturing the Red queen from Alice an Wonderland meets Harry Potter. This is definitely a series to look out for!
